Chemistry is the science concerned with the reactions, transformations, and aggregations of matter. Chemistry A covers the fundamental chemical concept of atomic and molecular structure. In addition to a general introduction to chemistry, this also covers chemical bonds, kinetics, chemical reactions, and conservation of matter and stoichiometry. Chemistry B is a continuation of Chemistry A, with many of the chemical concepts discussed previously necessary to comprehend the new material. Chemistry B focuses chemical thermodynamics, reaction rates and equilibrium, biochemistry and nuclear processes
Chemistry meets the requirement for graduation and fulfills University of C /CSU Subject Area Requirements.

Assignments/Homework/Grading
Each assignment may be assessed on one or more standard using the following rating scale: 4 (Advanced), 3 (Proficient), 2 (Basic), 1 (Below Basic), 0 (Far Below Basic). Report card grades are calculated as an average of scores, using the following scale:
A= 4.0 3.6
B= 3.5 2.7
C= 2.6 1.8
D= 1.7 0.9
F= 0.8 0.0
Homework and/or classwork are assigned several times a week. Homework may consist of reading, writing, research, or project based assignments. Students are required to keep a homework log in their notebook or daily planner. All homework and class assignments must be turned in on the assigned due date.
As the instructor, I reserve the right to give a pop quiz at any time.
I will also be giving a minimum of one (1) quiz a week.
It is the responsibility of you, the STUDENT to find out what work/quizzes have been missed and to either complete the work in a timely manner or schedule a make-up quiz.
School Policies
All school policies regarding student attendance and behavior apply to this class. Students are expected to behave in a manner conducive to learning. Students are required to adhere to the school dress code. Students are expected to bring necessary learning materials and assigned textbooks to class each day. Textbooks must be covered and maintained in the condition in which they were issued. Students are responsible for the cost of lost or damaged textbooks.
Required Student Materials:
Pen, pencil, paper & binder or notebook, folder (for all handed back work), book cover, textbook, calculator (TI-30 or higher; it must be a scientific calculator)
How to Help Your Child Success
Help your child set a consistent block of time aside each day to work on homework, class assignments, or enrichment activities. Provide a quiet study area in which your child can study. Encourage him or her to form study partnerships or study groups with other students in his or her class. Please feel free to contact the school or instructor should you have any questions or concerns about your child’s educational progress or learning needs.
